Victory-Goodland Green Street

Project Location

The Victory-Goodland Green Street Project (Project) is located in Council District 2 in the Greater Valley Glen area of Los Angeles. The Project’s drainage area of 126 acres is bounded by Vanowen Street to the north, Whitsett Avenue to the east, Victory Boulevard to the south and Coldwater Canyon to the west.

Project Description

The Project utilizes green stormwater infrastructure to capture and infiltrate stormwater runoff using 14 drywells and pre-treatment systems (i.e. rain gardens). The Project has the potential to infiltrate more than 35 million gallons of stormwater runoff into underground aquifers during a normal rainy season.

Project benefits:
  • Capture and infiltration of stormwater runoff into the San Fernando Valley Groundwater Basin
  • Removes pollutants (trash, bacteria, metals and nutrients) from stormwater runoff prior to its discharge to the Los Angeles River downstream
  • Mitigates flooding by reducing runoff flow rates and volume during certain storm events
  • Assists Los Angeles in complying with federal, state and local water quality standards and regulations

Project Cost and Partners

The Project cost was $4.2 million with funding provided by LA Sanitation and Environment, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and the California State Coastal Conservancy.
