FUNCTION OF CENTRAL LA RECYCLING AND TRANSFER STATION (CLARTS)

 

The Central Los Angeles Recycling and Transfer Station (CLARTS) provides transfer services to City of Los Angeles curbside collection operations. It is also open to commercial waste haulers, independent operators, and the general public.

  • Appliances
  • Any liquid waste
  • Concrete
  • Batteries
  • Sewage sludge
  • Asphalt
  • E-waste
  • Infectious waste
  • Dirt
  • Scrap metal
  • Septic tank pumping
  • Incinerator residue
  • Dead animals
  • Industrial waste
  • Slurries
  • Medical waste
  • Construction and demolition (C and D) waste

  

INCOMING MATERIAL BY ORIGIN (2014-2015 DATA) 

  • City waste
    • North Central: 646 tons/day
    • South Los Angeles: 826 tons/day
    • West Los Angeles: 168 tons/day
    • Green Waste: 220 tons/day
  • Commercial waste: 128 tons/day
  • Truck traffic volumes (at present 3,000 tons/day):
    • Inbound: 530 loads per day (LPD)
    • Outbound: 150 LPD (21-22 tons/load)

  

GATE RATES* 

  • $60.00/load (minimum charge)
  • $60.00/ton for municipal solid inert waste
  • $70/ton for hard to handle bulky items
  • $70/ton for special material handling

HOURS OF OPERATION AND RESTRICTIONS  

  • Open 5:00am-5:00pm 
  • Vehicles without automated tippers (manual unloading) are not allowed the use of the facility between the hours of 9:00am-1:30pm, Monday through Friday
  • Closed on major holidays
