Earth Day LA

On Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 10am to 2pm, LA Sanitation held its third annual citywide Earth Day LA event at Highland Park Recreation Center. We had City vehicles for kids to explore, games to play, prizes to win, seeds to plant, 70+ exhibitors to visit, and fun for all ages. Free beverages, hot meals, and cold popsicles were available for all. Our exhibits were all related to City services and sustainability. Photos can be viewed on our Facebook page.

Stay tuned for details of Earth Day LA 2019, coming soon!

In the meantime, we hope you'll join us for our "Discover Recycling" Open House events!

Over 70 exhibitors to visit

The exhibitor area is so much fun, you won’t even know you’re learning! All of our exhibitors are either government or non-profit. There will be nothing for sale, but there are plenty of giveaways! Learn how to use recycled water at home, what items can go in the blue recycling bin, where to get free mulch, how to sign up for a free street tree, and much more!

City vehicles to explore

This is what the kids have been waiting for! LASAN brings out one of each truck type for kids to explore. Honk horns, operate the controls, and see what it’s like to be a collections worker! Additionally, other City departments will bring vehicles for kids to explore. Don’t forget your camera to capture those smiles!

Mascots and live entertainment

LA Sanitation’s mascots will be out in full-force. Meet Mr. Recycle, Tommy TV, Octo-Clean, and their good friend, The Drop. At noon, our entertainers will take the stage. We will also have an enviro-azzi area in the Kids Zone for photographs with our mascots to keep your memories alive until next year’s event.

Kids Zone

Who wants to be an LASAN Earth Day Ambassador? The Environmental Learning Center at Hyperion (ELC) will be hosting a Kids Zone for our younger attendees. The Kids Zone offers educational, engaging game and craft stations to teach children how to protect the environment through everyday sustainable practices.

Bring your children to help understand the City’s work to protect the environment, learn about the Urban Water Cycle, begin your own vegetable garden, and make your very own Earth Day Pledge.
