Earth Day LA

As a measure of caution in relation to the containment of the COVID-19 virus, we felt it was best to cancel both our 2020 and 2021 events. These decisions were difficult, but the health and safety of our employees, volunteers, exhibitors, and attendees is our primary concern.

In lieu of the 2021 event, we released a series of short educational videos filmed individually by our staff.  You can watch them on our YouTube channel.

While mask mandates and safety protocols have recently changed, there just wasn't enough lead time to plan such a large event on short notice. We hope that you will visit us at one of the following upcoming events:

   4/9/22 from 8:30am to 1:30pm
Arbor Day at Mt. Carmel Recreation Center
Join City Plants and LASAN for a tree planting celebration like no other!
   4/23/22 from 10am to 2pm
Celebration of the Land at MacArthur Park Lake
Learn more about the MacArthur Lake Stormwater Rehabilitation Project and visit other LASAN exhibit booths.

   4/23/22 from 10am to 2pm
   LADWP Chatsworth Reservoir Open House
Join LASAN's biodiversity team for a bioblitz

   4/30/22 from 10am to 2pm
Tarzana Neighborhood Council's Earth Day Celebration
Join LASAN's for a home composting demonstration

Please follow us on Eventbrite for more LASAN events. Thank you for your continued support.

Thank you to all who joined us on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Woodley Park as LA Sanitation & Environment held its fourth annual citywide Earth Day LA event. We had City vehicles for kids to explore, games to play, prizes to win, seeds to plant, 50+ exhibitors to visit, and fun for all ages. Michelle Trujillo of Telemundo once again served as our Mistress of Ceremonies.  Free beverages, hot meals, cold popsicles, and giveaways were available for all to enjoy. All 100+ exhibits were all related to City services and sustainability. Photos from previous years can be viewed on our Facebook page. If you have a few minutes to complete our brief survey, we'd love to hear your thoughts so we can improve future events.

If you missed Earth Day LA 2019, we hope you'll join us for our LASAN Open House events!

Over 50 exhibitors to visit

The exhibitor area is so much fun, you won’t even know you’re learning! All of our exhibitors are either government or non-profit. There will be nothing for sale, but there are plenty of giveaways! Learn how to use recycled water at home, what items can go in the blue recycling bin, where to get free mulch, how to sign up for a free street tree, and much more!

City vehicles to explore

This is what the kids have been waiting for! LASAN brings out a variety of trucks for kids to explore. Honk horns, operate the controls, and see what it’s like to be a collections worker! Additionally, other City departments will bring vehicles for kids to explore. Don’t forget your camera to capture those smiles!

This year we have two stages: the Main Stage and the Kids Pavilion Stage!  OUr Mistress of Ceremonies is once again Michelle Trujillo of Telemundo 32.

Artwork Competition

Local elementary schools were invited to participate in our  LASAN Earth Day LA Artwork competition, open to K-5 students. The artwork had one requirement: to take inspiration from the interpretation of the contest theme “Greening Los Angeles, Preserving our Future”. Exciting prizes are available to the winners, and the chosen artwork will be displayed on an active LASAN collection truck in the local neighborhoods. Curious who the winners are? Come by the Main Stage at 11:30am.

Free food and beverage

LASAN staff will be serving lunch and snacks from 10am to 2pm! We have an asian theme this year in honor of our Japanese Garden, located adjacent to Woodley Pakr. Frozen tropical fruit popsicles, and cold water will also be available. These treats are free for all, while supplies last.

Kids Zone

Who wants to be an LASAN Earth Day Ambassador? The Environmental Learning Center at Hyperion (ELC) will be hosting a Kids Zone for our younger attendees. The Kids Zone offers educational, engaging game and craft stations to teach children how to protect the environment through everyday sustainable practices.

Bring your children to help understand the City’s work to protect the environment, learn about the Urban Water Cycle, begin your own vegetable garden, and make your very own Earth Day Pledge. Don't forget to visit the Kids Pavilion Stage to meet our MC for the day, Carina Zaldivar!
