Day Care
Operated by Mt. Washington Preschool and Child Care Centers, Joy Picus Child Development Center is a day care located in South City Hall serving City employees and families living and working downtown.

Deferred Compensation
This plan is offered as a supplement to retirement benefits. Employees participating in this plan voluntarily defer a portion of their salary to help them prepare for financial independence when they retire and, at the same time, lower their income taxes. Deferred compensation funds and earnings are not subject to state and federal income taxes until the funds are withdrawn, usually at retirement. Contributions remain in the plan until the employee separates from City service.

Flexible Work Schedules
In an effort to improve air quality, the City of Los Angeles introduced flexible working schedules for employees, depending on your work assignment, location, and Union. One option is the popular 9/80 work schedule - by working just an extra hour a day, you can have a three day weekend every two weeks.

Flexible Spending Accounts
The City of Los Angeles offers flexible spending accounts that allow employees to reduce their taxable income through automatic pre-tax payroll deductions for eligible medical, dental, and dependent care expenses.

Two weeks after one year of service; three weeks after five years of service; up to four weeks with additional years of service.

Eleven paid holidays including one floating holiday each year

Public Works Building (PWB)
Those who work at the Public Works Building in downtown Los Angeles have access to a variety of building amenities.

Eateries at the PWB are located downstairs in the garden level. A new 90-seat café with outdoor seating features an upscale cafeteria “Market Café by Patina”, which offers breakfast, salad bar & grilled fare, plus sidewalk seating. Up just one level are Starbucks, Subway, FedEx Kinko’s, Trimana, and Cilantro Mexican Grill.  Bank of America is next door.

The building also boasts abundant covered and surface parking within two garages. Lobby reception includes 24-hour security and video monitoring with two lobby security consoles. There is an athletic club on site, and the building has great access to the 10 & 110 freeways, just minutes from LA LIVE and Staples Center.
