LA Sanitation & Environment response to coronavirus:

Update 10/15/20
As evenings get colder in Los Angeles, many of our unsheltered neighbors struggle to keep warm.  If you're able, please donate new and gently used (washed and clean) blankets and sleeping bags.  Donated items will be distributed to the homeless community through our CARE program.  Questions?  Please call 213-485-2260 or email san.cfrp@lacity.org.

Update 5/6/20
Normally we suggest donating unwanted usable items such as furniture, appliances, and oversized toys.  However, with most donation centers closed and unstaffed, we ask that you please call us for free curbside bulky item collection instead.  Bulky items are piling up in front of donation centers, which is not only unsightly but also poses a hazard to the community.  You can request free curbside bulky item collection by calling us 24/7 at 1-800-773-2489 or by using the MyLA311 app.

Update 4/30/20
We're unfortunately seeing used gloves and masks all around the City in gutters, parking lots, streets, sidewalks, and yards. We're asking Angelenos to please dispose of these items properly in a trash can. We invite you to download our flyers to share as you wish.

Update 4/22/20
Since we can't be with you in person to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, our staff created a video to share some personalized sustainability tips.

Update 4/15/20
On behalf of our Director and General Manager, Enrique C. Zaldivar, we'd like to share this video we created to thank our team for their tireless efforts.

Update 4/7/20
We created a video that shows how to sanitize your bins.  You can view the video here.

Update 4/6/20
LASAN partnered with YMCA to provide nine facilities (including showers, bathrooms, and locker rooms) daily from 9am to 2pm to supplement our six mobile hygiene units, supporting the City's unsheltered residents. Learn more here.

Update 3/24/20
Effective immediately, all SAFE Centers will be closed until further notice. Please store your household hazardous waste (HHW) safely at home.  Do not place HHW in your bins or leave it in front of the SAFE Center locations as this creates blight and a hazard to the local community. Electronic waste may be scheduled for curbside collection by calling 1-800-773-2489 or by using the MyLA311 app.

Update 3/23/20
Low Impact Development (LID) Plan Check procedures have changed.  Please view our web page for details. Food Service Establishment Plan Check via our Industrial Waste Management Division is now by appointment only; please call 323-342-6118 for assistance.

Update 3/14/20
As a measure of caution in relation to the containment of the COVID-19 Virus, we regretfully announce the following changes, postponements, and cancellations of public events/activities:
Suspended until further notice:
- Composting and home gardening workshops at all three locations
- Los Angeles Environmental Learning Center (ELC) at Hyperion visits
- Lopez Canyon Environmental Education Center (EEC) visits
- Japanese Garden visits (both scheduled and walk-in)
- Plant tours at all four water reclamation plants
- Mobile used oil collection events

- Earth Day LA

- Buky item drop-off event Saturday, April 11
- All six Open House events
- The Japanese Garden's bonsai event

These decisions were difficult to make, but the health and safety of our staff and attendees is our primary concern. We look forward to resuming these educational services when concerns have passed. In the meantime, services from LA Sanitation & Environment remain uninterrupted. Angelenos can expect continued solid waste collection service, including refuse, recycling, green waste, and bulky item collection. Our stormwater and wastewater services will continue as well.

We remain committed to our mission of protecting public health and the environment. Thank you for your continued understanding and support.

As always, we welcome you to call our 24-hour Customer Care Center at 1-800-773-2489 with any questions or concerns.
