 Standing Water

What We Can Do For You!

Have you ever looked out your window or taken a walk and seen some major amount of standing water? Who knows, maybe it could be standing water from a broken sewer line, or a blocked catch basin or storm drain, maybe even a Department of Water and Power (DWP) problem. If you have seen this problem, call us and we will take the necessary action to clear the standing water.

Who do You Call?

Department of Public Works, Bureau of Sanitation
Wastewater Collection Systems Division

What we Need From You!

To make a request for clearing Standing Water, you must call and provide:

  • Your Name
  • Call-Back Telephone number
  • Location of Problem
  • Type of problem being reported

The Process

  • You may call the Headquarters Administration Office or the District Yard
  • If Headquarters is called, the location will be determined and call-back information will be obtained from you; this information will be telephoned to the appropriate District Yard
  • If you contact the District Yard directly, the above call-back information will be obtained
  • The District Supervisor will investigate and determine the cause of the standing water (broken sewer line, blocked catch basin or storm drain, or Department of Water and Power (DWP) problem
  • The District Supervisor will determine actions necessary to resolve the complaint
  • Following investigation by the District Supervisor, the complaint may be referred to another Bureau or Department for resolution. In some instances, standing water may be caused by a blocked catch basin or storm drain. Other times standing water results from street construction or Department of Water and Power (DWP) water line seepage.
  • The District Supervisor will provide the caller with a status report in person or by telephone.

How Long Will it Take?

Complaints or requests regarding standing water are investigated immediately because of the potential for injuries or accidents from water ponding. The caller is provided with a status report following field investigation of the complaint or request.
