Christmas Tree Recycling Program

Recycle at Home: Use Your Green Bin
Residents with green yard trimming bins are encouraged to recycle their Christmas trees by following easy three-steps:
1) REMOVE all the ornaments, decorations, tinsel and stand from the tree;
2) CUT the tree in pieces to fit into the green bin; and
3) PLACE the tree pieces in the green bin for regular pick-up by the Bureau of Sanitation. Christmas trees collected by the city will be recycled into compost and mulch.

No Green Bin? Bring Your Tree to a Drop-off Site!
Multifamily and apartment buildings residents that do not have green bins are urged to use one of 28 drop-off sites across the city sponsored by the Department of Recreation and Parks, and the City of Los Angeles Fire Department.

Drop-off Dates:
Saturday, January 5 and Sunday, January 6, 2008
9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Recreation and Park locations participating in the drop-off program will provide greengive-a-ways to the public, while supplies last. The give-a-ways include one-gallon trees from the Mayor's Million Trees LA Initiative, compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) from the Department of Water and Power, and mulch coupons from the Department of Public Works Bureau of Sanitation.

New in 2008!
Recreation and Park drop-off sites will also accept excess holiday wrapping and packaging material.
