Household Hazardous Waste The Bureau of Sanitation has established a number of permanent collection sites throughout the City, known as S.A.F.E. CENTERS. These S.A.F.E. CENTERS are open every weekend and provide a timely and convenient way to dispose of your waste. In addition, the Bureau of Sanitation sponsors periodic mobile collection events throughout the City, where residents can drop-off their waste to be disposed properly. Bulky Item Pickups The Bureau of Sanitation will pick-up your large or bulky household items, such as mattresses, couches, and other furniture from all residents serviced by the City of Los Angeles free of charge. To make arrangements to have these items removed from your curbside, please call us at 1-800-773-2489, from Monday through Friday, between 7:30 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. For more information about the proposed Bulky Item Pickup Fee (BIF) please click here. Single Family Collection Services The Bureau collects over one million tons of refuse annually from 750,000 customers including single and small multiple family residences. If you are a single family residence with City collection services and need to make a service request, please click here. District Yards Residents of multifamily buildings can drop off recyclables at any local district yard. The local district yards also accept bulky items, used tires, and TV and computer monitors.
