City of LA 70% Diversion Strategy

In 1989, the California Integrated Waste Management Act of 1989 (AB 939) was signed intolaw. AB 939 established the requirement for each jurisdiction within the state to meet wastediversion goals of 25% by 1995 and 50% by the year 2000. The responsibility for documentingwaste diversion efforts for the City of Los Angeles lies with the Bureau of Sanitation’s Solid

Resources Citywide Recycling Division.  These goals have been met and now the City has set a goal of diverting 70% by 2020.
