Water Conservation
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (DWP) has an active water conservation program. DWP continues to stress the importance of using water wisely. Challenges to the City’s legal water rights, and unpredictable climatic conditions are constant reminders that our water supply cannot be taken for granted. Since approximately 75 percent of the City’s water is imported over 300 miles from Owens Valley and Mono Basin, it simply does not make sense to waste it.
In view of this situation, the DWP is asking everyone to conserve water. Cooperation from our customers, including commercial and industrial businesses, has been outstanding. However, the effort must continue, as water conservation is a necessary part of future water supply planning. Brochures and informational bulletins providing more specific water conservation suggestions have also been developed by DWP and are available upon request.
