June 23, 2011 LOS ANGELES (June 23, 2011) - The City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works Bureau of Sanitation (BOS) has been selected as a National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) Excellence in Management honoree. The award celebrates the Bureau of Sanitation’s innovation and achievement in effective management of its Clean Water Program. The selection process evaluated quality, operations resiliency, innovation, financial viability, stakeholder involvement, and customer satisfaction.
   
June 16, 2011 LOS ANGELES (June 16, 2011) - EPA Awards the LA $400,000 in Grants - The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Brownfields Program awarded the City of Los Angeles $400,000 in grants as part of the Brownfields Program, that empowers states, communities and other stakeholders to work together to prevent, assess, safety clean up and sustainably reuse brownfields. It arranges for the identification of environmental contaminants and cleanup options for blighted property necessary for land reuse.
   
June 14, 2011 LOS ANGELES, CA (June 14, 2011) - Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa
announced today that the City of Los Angeles in tandem with the Carton
Council, a collaborative of carton manufacturers committed to expanding
carton recycling in the U.S., has launched a new initiative to recycle food
and beverage cartons as part of its residential curbside recycling program.
Los Angeles will be the largest of the over 200 cities across California
which already have carton recycling programs.

August 28, 2008 State Law Prohibits Disposal of Sharps in Regular Trash Containers
  The City of Los Angeles’ Bureau of Sanitation reminds residents that effective September 1, 2008, Senate Bill 1305 makes it illegal to dispose of home-generated Sharps in the regular trash. Sharps such as needles (hypodermic, suture), syringes, lancets, endo files, prefilled pens, etc. should not be disposed of in the regular trash or flushed down a toilet but rather be brought to a S.A.F.E. Collection Center or Mobile Collection Event.
   
July 15, 2008 Education Targets Source Separation to Improve Diversion Rates of Household Waste

April 28, 2008 Launch of Pacific Coast Highway Website for Construction and Traffic Information
  The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and cities of Los Angeles, Malibu and Santa Monica announced the launch of the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) construction information website to serve as a source of information about pending construction projects planned on PCH. The projects are scheduled to begin in spring 2008 with estimated completion in 2011.
