Bureau of Sanitation engineers are dedicated to protecting our natural environment and the public’s health. Our 2,800 employees work in 18 divisions where we use some of the most technologically advanced and environmentally-friendly resource management systems in the world to:

Our Mission
A variety of activities and services are provided to the residents of Los Angeles on a continuous basis. What is shared among us is a strong sense of mission that brings approximately three thousand employees together.
Our mission is to protect public health and the environment.

Our Programs

Solid Resources State-of-the-art technologies and programs support the largest recycling and solid resource management program on the west coast.

Wastewater Collection and Treatment Planning, design, and operations are provided for the nation's largest and most advanced sewer and treatment systems.

Watershed Protection Engineering design, planning, monitoring, and stakeholder collaboration protect beaches and inland water resources.

Asset Management Assets, budgets, and expenditures are actively managed for capital improvement projects worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

Information and Control Systems Management and planning covering networks, data centers, business and environmental IT systems, control and SCADA systems, GIS, and over 2000 personal computers.

Regulatory Affairs Engineers identify and monitor emerging environmental issues, policies, and regulations.
