| Managing Our Biosolids |
you should know...
The City is committed to managing its biosolids in an environmentally sound, socially acceptable, and cost-effective manner. We are constantly reviewing the program and incorporating continual improvements. The City has been demonstrating the Terminal Island Renewable Energy project for over three years. The existing permit is set to expire November 2011 and the City has submitted a new permit application to the U. S. EPA to continue demonstrating the project. As part of the new permit application we are requesting some project changes. We have completed a draft subsequent negative declaration to address the changes and are requesting your comments. Click here for more information. This site was updated on November 21, 2011 | Other Options and ProposalsThe City currently manages approximately 700 wet tons of biosolids every day. In order to ensure that the biosolids are put to beneficial use in an environmental sound manner, the City investigates new management options. When the City is seeking to develop and implement new options a Request for Proposals (RFP) is issued. The RFPs are evaluated and if considered viable a contract is negotiated and executed with the vendor or contractor. Other Management Options The City has contracted with Solids Solution to manage some of its biosolids. Solids Solutions/Terra Renewal manages some of the material in Kern County and in Arizona.
