If you lived in an apartment or multi-family building and paid a Solid Resources Fee you may be entitled to a refund.

Si Ud vivío en un apartamento u otro edifìco de vivienda multifamiliar y pagó una Tarifa de Recursos Sólidos, Ud puede tener derecho a un reembolso.

In the lawsuit, Chakhalyan v. City of Los Angeles, Plaintiff contends that the City of Los Angeles (“City”) improperly collected a Solid Resource Fee (“SRF”) from certain residents. (Previously, the SRF was called the Sanitation Equipment Charge. Plaintiff’s case covers both). Click here for the Stipulation of Settlement in Chakhalyan v. City of Los Angeles.

The SRF Overcharges were of two types:

  • The City collected SRF from those living in apartments and other multiple-family dwellings even though the City did not collect trash from that dwelling. These SRF Overcharges were up to approximately $24 per month per customer.
  • The City collected SRF at the higher single-family dwelling rate instead of the lower multiple-family dwelling rate. These SRF Overcharges were up to approximately $12 per month per customer.
